WHO WHY WHERE

I really, really like to make things.

Artist-type, teacher, dreamer. Almost 37 years old (in October, 2005). Card-carrying gay bachelor. Medium height. Born and braised in Louisiana until about 1994, when I moved to Boston, Massachusetts. As a southern boy, I can say that having four distinct seasons is novel, but winter in New England is a bit long and occasionally spitefully cold. I'm an autumn person, and everything lovely you've heard about the trees here is absolutely true.

I have a persistent curiosity about nearly every material that can be shaped, drilled, melted, sculpted, glued, tied, painted, or otherwise manipulated. I read uncontrollably about 3D art processes involving clay, glass, metals, wood, paper and plastics. I've tried my hand at many of them. I can hold my own in 2D processes as well. My personal work in these areas develops in interesting ways, though sometimes it's frustratingly slow going, what with having to eat and sleep and all.

Stylistically, I'm influenced by industrial design and the way animated characters are designed because those mediums rely so heavily on capturing the most unambiguous functions or emotions with an abolute minimum of shapes or lines. However, I also have a decadent --and, dare I say it?-- obessesive streak for ornamentation which is most easily seen in patterns and drawings.

For employment and freelance work, I routinely make and sell things in clay. I love the material and have had lots of access to the necessary equipment. I teach ceramics to adults and to college students, and am quite fortunate to work in two ceramic production and design studios.

There is a professional resumé floating around here somewhere.

I work on my own projects in a sub-let studio space near my house. For example, I often make ceramic whistles for sale through local venues. During the Summer of 2005 I am bringing the newest versions (turtles!) to four craft fairs. Working in silver and copper is gaining some momentum because I have a torch now and can solder. [cue maniacal laughter]

Oh and there are pictures of me, too.
